I'm looking at the latest on MidAmerica Airport in Mascoutah.

It's alway an experience when I go there to shoot, on days that it's empty.

I remember when it was Christened and all the dignitaries were on hand to tell how great a deal this was for taxpyaers $300 million dollars..and St. Clair county officials have been trying to get it up and going since it openned in 1997..

Now they're hoping the latest $3 million dollar investment to refrigerate the cargo area will do the trick.. A lot of promises that this will do it.

Haven't we taxpayers heard that tune before..

I did get a treat the other day though some of the Blue Angels used the field along with their Cargo Plane..called Fat Albert.. I guess that was worth the $317 million dollar price of admission.

Yes, that was unfortunate but don't forget that was a different time. A time when the airline industry and the airport was booming and running out of capacity. No forsaw what the TWA-AA merger and 9/11 would have on the airport here in St. Louis. But it is unfortunate it is put to so little use after all that trouble building it.

I still think it would be a better hub than Lambert. Just got to get the traffic sorted out.

Recalling the past, it seems that I remember that this airport was built to help Scott AFB stay off the closure list at the Pentagon. I believe Scott needed a new control tower, and the Pentagon said no. So we built the new airport and tower, which is shared with Scott. As you drive by, you can see the taxi way cut through the tree line connecting the AFB and Mid America. It saved a hugh number of civilian jobs by saving Scott. Tell the truth.

But if they just wanted to build a facility for Scott they didn't have to build such a fancy expensive passenger terminal..
Have you have seen the waiting areas the Military uses..They certainly aren't elaborate.
They could have built a landing strip, control tower and a small waiting area like they have at Parks Airport..and just called it a day.
