A friend of mine panics the minute she sees a spider.  It's dead before Identification. My life is filled with spiders of all kinds.  I come into contact with poisonous ones daily, but I also come in contact with the beautiful and the fasicnating ones.  I wrote this poem for my friend.

I’m so sorry the spiders make you wrought,

You killed one, who webs, he does not brought,

He stalks his prey, usually his own kind,

He is a cannibal in his own mind.

He doesn’t spin webs for you to see,

He scurries around, he doesn’t flee,

If another spider might be hiding there,

He goobles him up, he doesn’t share.

It sounds like a wolf spider he is,

Large, brown furry looking he tis,

Why, because he is a she,

On her back all her babies, like fur, be.

If he’s a tiny brown spider with spindly legs,

It’s is necessary, to be killed, he begs,

Reclusive in nature is how he is named,

Poisoning us is the name of his game.

This is also the one with fine stringy webs,

He does not design with the finesse of Debs,

No crazy quilt or geometric design,

Any haphazard way, with him is fine.

The reclusive female is the mean one indeed,

Her bite is terrible, causing infections that bleed,

The male Brown Recluse, is the tiniest of all,

He is not very mighty because he’s so small.

A spider you don’t see often in the light,

Is one that’s black, like the dark of night,

On the female’s back is an hour glass,

Letting you know, let this spider pass.

She is a very spiteful, hateful dame,

Killing her mate is her end game,

She waits till his studdly deed is done,

He’s dispatched quickly, to heaven gone.

There are spiders which delight the eye,

Some can make you laugh till you cry,

A jumping spider does not cause fright,

He’ll make children squeal with delight.

Take your finger and impede his path,

You’ll get a giggle when he shows his wrath,

On his haunches he rears back,

Making a show of a feigned attack.

He’ll quickly charge away from you,

Throwing a web like a climber would do,

Repelling off the edge of your table or desk,

Knowing you’ll say, “You won’t be missed”.

So many spiders in our life we need,

In my garden I love the garden spider’s greed,

He spins webs of gorgeous designs,

Catching flying insects, all the time.

Think twice before the disastrous deed you dispatch,

Think about the “Charlottes” who have hatched,

Think before executing the final blow,

Is this someone I should get to know?

I know what you mean my mom is deathly afraid of spiders well all bugs and don't even start with snakes..

We had a cuet little spider in the bathroom few years back I named Wilbur..He was in the shower in the back corner..

He never botherd anyone I asked mom to not do anything to him.She said as long as he stayed up there she would do nothing..

Well Wibur was my spider friend for months and months..He would be down on the ledge of the shower and when I turned the water on he would go up..

When I turned the water off he come down talked to him and sing to him every morning.

Finaly one day Wibur did come down but it was another spider who got him a killed him..I was so mad....I took the other spider and put him outside,I wanted to kill it but I just could not harm him even though he killed my little Wilbur...

Mighty cute poem Dorsettsheep, but I HATE SPIDERS OF ALL KINDS and I have them ALL KILLED if I see them near me.

I was sleeping one night, woked to 40+ spider bites . . . this was followed by nasty injections and a month of medications.

So here's my response to your beautiful poetry

Ode to a Dead Spider

Now, when I see a spider, no matter how harmless they may be

They get squished then flushed down the toilet you see

If no one is here, to do this deed

A can of hairspray is all I need

There are lots more spiders for all to have fun

but for me, I just cannot outrun

I freak, and I scream, I've cried a bit too

Oh how I hate spiders, how about you?

Once in a hotel, a spider entered my room

I called the operator and spoke of the doom and gloom

Get this darn thing, send someone right now

Or I'm checking out of your hotel without taking a bow

I panic, I scream, til they are dead as can be

Because I'm afraid of spiders no matter the type

To me it is much more than hype.

I thought it quite a fun read,
Even though I cared not for the deed,
But I understand your plight,
Of the desire, the spider, to fight.

You see by a Recluse I've been bit,
On the arm not on the ---,
It infected, drained for over a year,
Of spider reclueses I live in fear.

Harped mention the trial of snakes,
I will tell you they give me the quakes,
Read my past blogs of close meetings,
See why they don't get my best greetings.

Chatting in verse with you is fun,
The sewing machine, I'll go when done,
Crafting presents for little ones,
For the night when Santa comes.

Dorsettsheep . . . I'll respond a bit later. Right now the swelling around my eyes is causing strain and I need to get away from the computer for a while.

Thanks for the neat response!

When Daddy long legs you squish,
They emit a smell that makes you wish,
You hadn't been so very fast,
To do the deed you done last.

What in the invironment do they do,
Except benefit the sole of your shoe,
I can not see the need of,
This spider which I do not love.

No spiders in my house you see,
outside is where they should be.
If one decides that it should come in,
It will soon find itself in a trash bin.
I do not allow bugs in my house,
It will be treated as if it were a mouse.
Dead as a door nail it will be,
I do not feel guilty at all you see.

Cuteypops your poetry's fine,
No spiders in your house dine,
But beware of the silver fish,
They don't wait to be squished.

A movie, Mr. Wild sent me,
With my connection I could not see,
We had a tarantula for a pet,
It was the sweetest one yet.

She never tried to do us harm,
She'd walk up and down my arm,
She only lived for three years,
In all that time I had no fears.

Why you ask, the answer is,
A biology teacher was Hubby's biz,
Snakes, all sorts of creepy crawlies,
I have loved him and them always.

Wildflower, Our tarantula was bald on her rear too. They throw their "quills" (word loss brain block) When they get nervous. (MY puter doesn't have sound...something is wrong inside, so I couldn hear the video)

About 35 years ago we also had a NOrth american porcupine for a pet. His name was porky...they even make eating noises like a pig. They are sweet too...and a little dumb...reminded me of a guinea pig with armor.

An Organic Gardening Grandma who has raised sheep and just about everything else. We have had years where we provided most everything for our meals year round. Yes I can food, freeze, and dry foods. We raised goats and milk cows, even kept bees. This is the first year in 40 years we have not had farm animals of any kind. I still have my large garden, we now have more flowers than we used to. Herbs run rampant in the rows. We have four house cats (one is 20 years old), 2 african gray parrots that are 35 years old, We are down to one tiny little dog who looks like, "honey, who shrunk the border collie". She was dumped at the gate (her name is "Honey"). We have 25+ cats we feed in the barn. None are tame, but all come up for diner. They make my life happier. We never see any snakes where they are. Being we used to see a lot of copperheads in the garden the cats are a blessing. We feed Raccoons (it keeps them out of my garden). Yes we could trap them and relocate them...but no one else wants them around either. We also feed birds year round and hummers april 14 till they leave. What do I love, just about everything. I sew (make all the grandkids costumes), Quilt, garden, paint, cook, write poetry and prose. These are just a few of my favorite things.
