Weather or Not

by ChrisHiggins from FOX 2

Last Post 1 day, 2 hours Ago

Hey gang... sorry my last blog was knocked out somehow... this will serve as a bridge until I return from Florida Friday morning.  Obviously there are some pretty interesting trends pulling together for Thursday across the midwest.  No doubt it will rain... in some cases a lot.  No doubt there will be several waves of storms... some severe.  The questions revolve around the degree and quality of the instability Thursday and whether or not there will be enough upward bouancy (i.e. instability / CAPE) to overcome the strong shear.  I haven't had the chance to look closely at the data... and may not be able to do so until later this evening.  But certainly looks like tomorrow will be a day to keep close tabs on the weather.  I have the rest of today and tomorrow to finish up my course work here at Hurlburt Field, FL... then I'll be back in St. Louis Friday morning...and on the air Friday night and all of next week for Dave.

Great to hear from you Chris! I was under the impression that you were deploying straight from florida over seas! Tomorrow does look very interesting indeed! Have a safe trip home and see you on friday!

Nice to see you Chris. Tomorrow is looking dicey for sure. Like you said will there be enough upward motion to to overcome that strong shear. If there is watch out. I've seen cases where it couldn't do it that were absolutely prime otherwise.

Well after more testing and another stay at the hospital this week my wife Katie is finally going to be induced Tomorrow at 6am! We hope that everything goes well as I'm sure it will. So with that said please wish Katie good luck and keep Katie and our daughter Lily in your prayers as the both of them go through one of the most beautiful yet hardest time in both their lives!

As for the testing goes, Katie had some testing of her urine again this weekend and on Monday and both where not too good. So they kept her all week. They did another 24 urine from yesturday and that looked good. The doctor called for her to get a amniocentises to see how Lily's lungs have developed so he could find out if they should induce tomorrow or wait another week, but the fluid in the lily's home was to low. So he said "well it's low so we are going to induce."

So I'll kep everyone updated when I can. But right now, just going to be with Katie (mommy) at the hospital and keep her comfortable!!!!

Also something I've joked about since my wife got pregnant was that we are going to have her on a Severe Weather Day. Well that was just a joke!! Right? LOL. I'm soo excited that tomorrow is going to be a "GOOD" DAY! Hope she comes out during a tornado warning!!! shhh my wife would kill me if she heard that! Just kidding!

BobBobbyRobert25- I had my youngest during the tornado outbreak of March 2006... the sirens were going off and warnings kept popping up. I kept thinking I'm actually in a very safe place, but it was still a little scary!

Good luck tomm!

new river forecasts are out and more trouble looks likely on the smaller rivers with moderate to possibly major flooding on meramec river even the mississippi here at st. louis looks to be close to the moderate flood stage.

Bobby hope all went well with both mom and baby. I had just a tad over 3.25" from the start last night till this evening in Mascoutah. way out there but models have us staying wet 18th -23rd yet again. Unfortunately GFS has been pretty good picking these systems up that far out.

Hey Chris,

I have a Senior project for my Lit. class that I am doing and it is about my future career. I want to become a meteorologist and I need to have an interview with someone that is in the field. My teacher doesn't care how, just as long as I have one. If I could interview you, I would greatly appreciate it. Just let me know where you would like to have it, maybe on the blog, or through email. Thanks in advance.

Safetyman, for once I'm glad I've been outdone. "Only" 2.5 inches down in Marissa this time. Haven't added it to my spreadsheet yet, but it should be somewhere around 15" since March 17--didn't keep track before then.
