That's right. I am guilty of being a blog hog.  You see, certain things that people write on their -- and others' -- blogs can trigger certain staunch opinions and perspectives. Because I think very fast and write -- and type -- almsot as fast, it's exponentially easy for me to leave "signature dissertations" everywhere.

As recent as, um, just now on Jeanette's blog -- the issue: energy drink ingredients and consumption, particularly among teen girls, including reasons why.

And historically, on um at Kurkel's Place -- the issue(s): healthcare-oriented topics. At the Michelle4Wellness blog -- issue: not sure. On KKmom's blog -- issue: outsourcing of medical transcription to India [which, incidentally, I've changed my stance on in the months since and see her point as more valid than my own at the time].

Yes, others also. And a select few other bloggers have done the same -- dissertations upon dissertations -- on my blog! Snoopydad, for example. Chickenkiller. Sikuvtherite. And many others! Frankly, I am all for this and welcome the dissertations. In some cases, some bloggers have changed my own views -- a big time credit to them for having presented something in a way that resonated with and educated me.

The point: For me, perhaps because I write them myself -- thus, am biased about the reasons why they're written -- dissertations represent a blogger's investment of time on my blog -- and an investment of mental and physical energy -- and because of this -- and the fact  they reveal a blogger's core passions, interests, intelligences, insights, opinions and perspectives -- I want to see and read what and how they think.

However...

There are certain blog statements and dissertations I don't welcome -- and I will not tolerate and, consistent with Fox2 Blogging Policies, will delete without a moment's hesitation: [A] Personal attacks [B] Slander and libelous comments C] Threats and other offensive or disparaging statements by Internet losers -- faceless cowards, control freaks and insecure, mean-spirited types who lack 3 things:

  1. The ability to agree to disagree
  2. Respect for others' whom are different -- and who have different perspectives
  3. Guts -- and the balls -- to make their personal attacks in person

Question: How do you feel about blog hogs -- bloggers who write dissertations on your blog -- and/or the blogs you frequent? Question: Have you experienced personal attacks on the blogs? If so, how did you handle it -- and what are your own policies for bloggers?

FAQ: Why is this blog categorized as "Political"? [A] There is no category for "none of the above"  [B] This is the area of the blog bar where I read countless dissertations -- and have left more than a few of my own -- and [C] If you want to get a feel for what the "hot topics" are -- that seem to trigger rath and disdain -- this is the place!

lol B....very interesting...

Yes I have been attacked on the blogs but I have handled differentl depending on my "mood" and being I am female..I can be quite moody!

I can either attack back vicously LOL.....not the appropriate or best thing to do..fyi...lol

I have just ignored...best tactic, truely....

I have tried to engage and tone down the attack and get the person attacking to chill out.

I have deleted (if my post)

Some love to just stir...and some love to attack just to attack...and some take everything said personally (there are some times when I have, I know...when it wasnt meant personally by the person saying it!)

Some are just miserable unhappy people and want others to be the same and/or want to share their unhappiness...doom and glooom!

OK...now that I have been a blog hog on your blog! Have a great day....

I have been a "blog hog" from time to time. Sometimes I like to stir things up. And if I make personal attacks they are almost always in a joking manner.

And I have a blog hog who likes to constantly attack me personally on my blogs. Surprisingly, he has posted in this very blog.

I wonder who that could be mutatis....lol..
and maybe this person has a really low opinion of themself which is why they feel the need to attack so many others....

Just read my "disclosure" at the first of each of my blogs. I wholeheartedly believe in blog discrimination and will delete any person that is rude, obnoxious, and STINKS!

Thanks for sharing your views and experiences K -- and to keep it real, we men have our moods also, so it's not just the ladies.

I've been told by other bloggers who've been harrassed that it's best to ignore the derogatory comments, but it's tough -- and the knife-weilding bloggers know it, and love it when we snap back.

The tatic I've tried the most is what you mention -- engage them and seek to tone down the venom, but people whom are hell-bent on grinding and using their axe can't be reasoned with. So I'm listening to the wise ones and ignoring the Damian's, Chucky's and Christine's on the blogs. Or responding with humor, which seems to rile them up also. They could use some time with Dr. Phil!

There's nothing wrong with stirring up some controversy and being provocative -- heck, I find these rather humorous and am often amazed by how clever these folks are in their comments. But the personal attacking is never okay and is not funny, and it does reveal a great deal about how someone thinks of oneself and others.

They say that every time you are in public and in the company of hundreds of people, stats show that at least 10% are criminals, ex-cons, thieves, rapists, child molestors, abusers and other sick, twisted freaks. The blogs are no different if not worse because here, these wretched souls can remain faceless.

The one good thing about our experiences is that we are each not alone -- these types spew their venom all over the place and it becomes clear, fairly quick and consistently, who they are. It can be reassuring to know that it's not just you getting that crap, that hundreds of people are experiencing the same things from the same folks.

Mutatis -- I have read some of your stirring-it-up posts but have never detected any attacking, and if I'm not mistaken your poltical views are well presented. And that could be why you're attacked -- they're unable to express themselves, and jealous you come across so lucid.

How interesting -- and oh so convienent -- one such blogger opined here!

Right-moves, there are 2 kinds of people in the world -- people who respect and think well of themselves, and people who don't. And so, yes, I think well of myself -- thank you for the compliment!

People who think well of themselves tend to be accepting of others' differences -- and are very secure in terms of their inner being -- and in contrast, people who don't think too well of themselves, don't have much, if any, regard for others -- in part because they don't like themselves -- and are horribly insecure, have low self-esteem, etc.

And either way, it shows. Big time. And we appreciate your having proven it.

LOL. As a conservative, this talk from another right-wing voter is a perfect example of how very different people in the republican party are -- we're all not on the same page with our views, unlike what many liberals seem to think

LOL. It's not that we can't take what's said on a blog, it's that we expect adults to behave as adults.

But this is not an attack on you -- and just in case you're wondering, your comment above is not an attack on me/us.

Who are these "real people" -- can you be a tad more vague?! Are you referring to the framers of the constitution? Civil War generals -- let's see, I bet you favor the mindset of the Confederacy? Who?

"Normal"??? Is there such a thing?

Cutter: Thanks much for sharing! Kudo's to you for taking a stand and having respect for yourself.

The saying "treat others like you expect to be treated" is in need of change -- this is part of the problem! People who have low esteem and scant self-respect, do not care how they are treated -- and so they do not care how they treat others! The new mantra is "TREAT OTHERS HOW THEY WANT -- AND EXPECT -- TO BE TREATED, NOT HOW YOU WANT THEM TO BE TREATED -- UNLESS YOUR STANDARD IS HIGHER AND MORE RESPECTFUL"

As a veteran who hails from a family of veterans -- who's relatives and ancestors fought in Grenada, Vietnam, Korea, WWII, WWI, Civil War, Revolutionary War, Wars with Native Indians in Jamestown, Virgina -- and wars in England and Ireland and Scotland and France as far back as 200AD [so far, to our knowledge] -- I commend your support for our troops, past and present an

I think I learned something here...

First, my most vitrolic and viscious attacks usually involve the political far-right. Yes, I've been known to verbally attack those on the right who themselves verbally attack just about anything that isn't far-right. But at least I try to be consistent!

right-moves, cheetah is a fellow conservative. Maybe a bit more centrist than your so-far-right-you're-WAY-out-there postings, but a conservative none the less. But you attack cheetah saying he/she is a "wimp"?

right-moves attacks ANYBODY for ANY reason, I have just figured out.

Here's a sample dialog:

Blogger: "I think it is sunny and hot today"

right-moves: "You socialist wimp. Can't take it?"

Blogger 2: "Gas prices are high!"

right-moves: "LIBERALS! You weak liberals are trying to destroy America!"

cutter, I seem to remember we've agreed on something at one point! But yeah, as I said, I fight fire with fire when reading ultra-conservative opinions, and that's pretty much why I'm here - to make sure the "other" side is heard! But don't take it personally! I have no more personal problems than you do! In fact, there's this one problem I'd like to talk to somebody about, it's my... my... - well, it would be too long, so I'll save it for another day!

And cheetah, what of these long blogs? Well, here's what I think...

INTRODUCTION

CHAPTER ONE

This is going to be long...

Many years ago, I.......

Anyway, one thing I don't let bother me is what others say about me or call me. I'm not like that Megan girl - I won't kill myself just 'cause

...somebody called me a "wimp"! I guess Megan proved some will, though, but good ol' Blunt signed a bill just today to take care of that problem!

In fact, I think we MAY ALL BE GUILTY in this blog of posting "harmful" content that may now be illegal thanks to the Missouri Congress! We'd all better check our wording carefully!

So, I love you ALL! Have a REALLY NICE weekend! And I'll chat pleasantly with you all next week! (*Legal Disclaimer)

Seriously, when I disagree, for the most part I still respect most of you for your opinions. In fact, I think it's better when folks have a strong opinion either way! I respect that more than having no opinion whatsoever!

Wow, what a lucid post -- you're one of the bloggers I welcome anytime, Sik. This post, like a majority of your writings on the blogs that I come across, are the whole package -- intelligent [not that I'm the guru], well-said and succinct [you can put in a few lines what takes me a few pages], entertaining, with some humor, and lots of "white space" -- and no that's not a racist comment.

I could not agree more with your last statement -- absolutely! Strong opinions and the confidence to present them, and intense passion trumps having no voice nor views.

Agreeing with people just to avoid conflict is just as bad -- and only request of people like Right-Moves, is that it be kept civil! If they cannot manage something so basic as common courtesy, even in the heart of a disagreement, wow, that says alot about the quality of their relationships across-the-board.

On one hand I support the Internet harrassment bill -- and yet it depends on what it contains, and have not yet learned what that is.

I agree sik, tho I have disagreed with you more times...I think....than agreed...but I agree with you now (lol...please mark it down!)...

there are those of us who have pretty strong opinions about what we have opinions about (is there anything we dont have opinions about?) But like sik said...we disagree...we even argue and can get a little heated but are respectful and over all respect ea. others opinions....

I have been known to be long winded at times. I figure if you have a lot to say you are welcome to say it on my blog. There are some smart folk here and I like to read what they have to say, they make me think about what they have to say.
Rarely has anyone attacked me. I guess I am just not controversial, or boring if you will.
When I have been I try to find out just why they are doing it. Most of the time it is either a misunderstanding between us or a joke that I missed. Heck, there are some here I just like arguing with, and apparently they get a kick out of it also.
My policy is that if you get nasty with someone I will warn you about it. If they continue I will delete them. I have only deleted a person once, then fox deleted my entire posting. I knew why also and agreed with them. Heck, I got banned once cause someone ticked me off so bad I let them have both barrels. It happens now and then.

Mechany: Ya, there are some highly intelligent and articulate folks on the Fox2 blogs. I see nothing wrong with sparring and arguing just for the sake of arguing...and heck that's a nice cure for boredom. I like your system whereby you issue a warning.

I've deleted blog posts and it was always from the same two bloggers. When I realized others had the same issues with the same bloggers -- and were also getting slammed with vicious attacks -- I adopted a "zero tolerance" policy for them and others like them.

It's okay to go off with both barrels but I understand why Fox has its policies -- and am glad they do and even more pleased they enforce them.

In my opinion -- or as they'd say on Monty Python, it is my considered opinion -- the vast majority of people accept others' views and opinions without jumping on the attack wagon. Only a minority of folks attack.

Plus, perception and reality plays a role -- it can be easy to think you're under attack, but in reality perhaps it's not intended to be an attack nor a slam at all; maybe the writer/ speaker is just hitting a raw nerve, or maybe the reader/listener is hyper-sensitive to certain issues or certain people. There have been times when I have taken things too much to heart rather than being objective. And as someone who speaks his mind -- without censorship, and is direct -- not at all shy nor passive -- I can attest that there are times when that approach is offensive to some people, yet there is no maliciousness intended. Some people are just sensitive when around others whom are very different from them

You people use the word "attack" very loosely.

Wimps! But it's ok for you to "attack" our country and it's leaders and think nothing of it.

Slick willy had the word "sex" confused, and I think you bloggers have the word "attack" confused.
