I think that safety for our country and each and every citizen is the most important issue facing us in this next election.

Without safety, we could not get to the jobs if we had one.

Without safety, the schools would be in-effective.

Without safety, we could not get up, go get the paper and have a second cup of coffee.

Without safety, our hospitals would not be effective.  People could not get to work.

THe universities would not have an enrollment and no money would be left if we are not safe.

What do you think is the most important issue?????????

Most important for me: Freedom!

Look at most of the brutal dictatorships in this world. They are very safe places... as long as you don't step out of line. We could be entirely safe if the government put cameras on every corner and in every home. They could take away all guns, knives, clubs or anything else that could be used as a weapon. We could have a curfew imposed with our military patroling the streets 24 hours a day. Yeah, this would be a totally safe place to live if we had that. But is that the kind of place where you want to live? If so, there are plenty of places you can go that are "safe".

PSylvester20 - you've got to be kidding. Ever hear of a little country in central Africa called the Sudan, or Somalia. They certainly meet your criteria of brutality, however if you think you're safe there......I've got some prime land available to build you a house which happens to be in Valley Park.

Legolas - right on target!

I would much rather be free than safe. In fact it is the feeling of not bieng free that makes me feel UNsafe!

so is safety the absence of fear?If so you can control fear and feel safe even in an unsafe situation. Id never vote for anyone who plays on fear, that is not how a true leader leads.

Chicken -
I was kidding... but only a little bit. Places like Sudan and Somalia are not safe because of the bitter civil wars going on in those countries. Innocent people get caught in the crossfire because of their percieved allegiance to one side or the other.
I was referring to countries like North Korea and Saddam's Iraq. In those places, you are very safe because even the most petty crime is dealt with in a very heavy-handed manner. The government is breathing down your neck, waiting for you to make one wrong step.
My whole point was I'd rather be free and live with some risk in my life. Thus, I value freedom over safety.

Look it up for yourself. You can find the information on the US Department of State's website and various travel websites.
