I had to have a perscription filled. They wanted $117.00 for 30 pills.

I called the company, and they said, " We will not be able to manufacture the generic anymore, the government stopped that."

I said, "What Government??" She said, "Our Government."

So our government is our enemy. Gas, perscription drugs, food. Send all the jobs overseas.

What are they trying to do? break America.

I said, "Got to get Bush out of there." She said, the democrats have had control of the congress for the last year, what have they done?????

What do you think about our government trying to ruin the country????????

The President sucks. The congress sucks, at the moment possibly even worse. It all sucks. This country is in for a depression if things don't start turning around.

Oh, and by the way, the only way to get change will be to have a democratic congress and president, so things can get done. Some think two parties controlling each is good, but not when we are in this downturn. The only way things will change is with a democratic congress, and a president that won't ceto everything that comes to his desk.

Having a democratic congress has incressed the price of perscriptions by putting in restrictions on the drug companies. In the belief of controling profits. So with that being the case how much higher will the prices go with a Dem President?

Did you check into what was said about the generic not being manufactured anymore? A generic is the exact same as the name brand (or they are suppose to be). If I manufactured the name brand and the generic, I would make more money selling the name brand why would I want to manufacture the generic? I think you should check out what this company told you to see if it is true. And if true find out why the government stopped the generic. Something does not sound right to me.

Something about the story doesn't make sense. Usually a generic form of a drug is brought to market after the patent expires on the original drug. The same company that makes the original usually doesn't make both the original and generic, the generic is usually made by other drug companies to compete with the original. There are some cases where companies do license other companies to make generic versions, but, that's pretty rare.

I don't think the government had anything to do with it, unless one of two things happened. The generic made by the generic making company was substandard, or they jumped the gun and the patent(s) on the original hadn't really expired.

But, regardless, I'm sure it was Bush's fault, as everyone blames him for everything anyway. Not saying he's perfect, but, no less so than others in recent history.

How can politicians make healthcare a hot-button issue if they don't ruin it by sticking their noses in?
Kadas is right. The company that makes the brand name shouldn't be manufacturing the generic. Sometimes the innovator will grant "generic exclusivity" to a generic manufacturer before the patent expires. But, most of the time, generics are out there because the patent has expired on the brand name.

The company that I called was the one making the generic one, the cheaper one.

The legal quagmire, sometimes referred to as 'Intellectual Property' or 'IP', may very well have been the reason why they stopped manufacturing the generic. Drug companies (actually most entities) tend to get pretty up tight about people infringing on their patents, copywrites and other forms of IP.

If a company starts selling unauthorized copies of some medication, it cuts into the original company's ability to recoup the cost to bring a drug to market. Bringing a drug to market can, and usually is, very expensive.

What probably happened is the FDA shut down their production due to a violation. If that's the case, you're probably better off not using their product.

A blood thinning drug that was being imported from China, about month or two ago,was found to be the drug that killed 19 people and made couple hundred real sick ,maybe that was the problem .You can search the web for more information. all generics are not the same, the fillers can kill you..

AMOM, I agree you might be better without the generic. I believe all the chemicals used to create the drugs we consume are developed out of our country. We purchase the products from foregn governments and don't really have control over product safety. This is part of the larger picture of global trading. The problem, in some small part, is due to the lack of concern for our health. I understand China has no regard for us consuming poison or trash. They won't feed or distrubute to themselves the products they produce for our markets. We are hostages to our own consuption and we are incapable of controlling the products we bring into our own country. We no longer own the rights. We are,in fact, owned by China. Ask your doctor if there is an alternative drug. I know it is dificult to change what works, but I would speak to your physician. Perhaps he has samples, or can suggest something.

have you tried to get on a drug assistance program for the drug you need, if you can not afford your medicine some drug companies will let you sign up for the program and if you qualify you can get it for free, I have no health insurance and I have 6 medications that I have to have to live so I got on 6 different programs so I could get my medicine I need, all you have to do is call the drug company and tell them you can't afford the medicine and ask if they have a drug assistance program for that medication, they will send you all the qualifying paperwork, all you do is fill it out provide proof of income then have your doctor fill out his portion , then doublecheck your paperwork to make sure everything is done , then send it in you will get confirmation in 2to4 wks, in the mean time you can get samples from the doctor they are free.

Jimmy-42 - I think you hit the nail on the head. The story on this smells like a week old tuna in a sauna. Someone from the government doesn't just come walking through the door and say, "You can't make that anymore!"

Patent infringment or failure of the generic manufacturer to follow proper receiving inspection of active ingredients could have resulted in the product being pulled from the market.

90% of generic medications are made outside the U.S England and china are your 2 main manufacturers of generic drugs and vaccines, if the company that sells you the drug found something wrong with the drug they probaly pulled it so they wouldn't get sued if something happened to someone in the general public, thats why generics are cheaper because they can get them made cheaper in other countries. like everything else.

There are still many generic drug manufacturers here in the US. In fact, we have a few of them right here in St. Louis. People tend to associate the term "generic" as being of lower quality than the original. However, in some cases, generic companies will figure out how to refine the process so their drugs are MORE pure than the innovator. Regardless, even the drugs that are imported must meet or exceed the same specifications the FDA has set for the innovator before they can go to market.

I never meant to imply that generics are a lower quality, I just said most of them are made out of country because they can get them made cheaper, and as far as amom not being able to get the generic, the company probaly found somrthing wrong with it and pulled it before it got out to the general public.

You're both right (Jaydog & psylvester). In many cases the active ingredients of a pharmaceutical are produced outside of the US and imported then compounded with other ingredients into finished product in this country.

All raw ingredients must be quarantined and must pass QA prior to initiating compounding to the finished product and must pass an assay at each step of the production process. And there are plenty of spots along the way for the manufacturer to screw up with the FDA. For example, if the font on a label for the drug is changed and the new label is not approved, you can't sell the product.

I would suspect that the issue here was probably more of a QA problem.
