Food shopping at Wal-mart.
Inside the front door about 3 tables back- Angel food cakes, all marked down to $1.25 each.
Back in the vegetables isle, green beans .50 cent each.

Checked out: only about 8 items. Total was more than I expected. As soon as I got into the car, I checked my bill.

They had charged me $3.45 for the cake and .98 cents for the can of green beans. The scanners are not correct.

Had to go back in the store to the refund department. They did take care of it.

What about people who don't look at their receipt????????

I put this in news because we don't have a category for rip-offs.

yeah have to watch that stuff. I keep a total in my head when I shop and if it is off I call them on it. I just hate that at some places you have to go to another place in the store to get it rectified:(

Was at Wal-Mart last Thursday. Next to the cashier was a sign advertising an item I wasn't really planning on buying but because it was like a $7.00 savings, decided to. I showed the cashier the item AND the sign. She scanned the item, took my money and I did check the receipt. Regular price rang up. Her response was I HAD to go to the service desk.......got my money back, but I had to walk all the way to the back to get it. I think Wallyworld was hoping I would just say forget it and leave......

Got stuff on sale before that I had not seen a sign on or wasnt suppose to start until the day after I was buying it.

Opps. Computer error. Blame whoever didnt change the registers programming, which would be a high up manager I think.

But dont take it out on the cashiers, they really dont have the authority or means to change prices on their own.

I suppose they figuire you will just leave instead of waiting in line and the service desk. Unless its a good amount of money I admit I would just leave.

my husband and I were at k-mart and we were buying something I can't remember what but it had a sign with a reduced price. my husband caught a mistake right after the casher rung it up. she took it off the bill but, it was something we needed and wanted but she would not call the manager to price adjust. we waited and refused to move. then the manager came over and said he could not do anything about it either. the price is in the computer. then still holding up the line my husband walked back ripped the sign off the shelf and handed it to the manager and said I want it for this price the name of the product was on the tag then the manager gave in but some people behind us were PO at us but they could have gone to another line but they had already put there stuff on the belt. by the way it was only for 0.10 cents saving. as we left I herd the casher complaining to the lady behind us who waited all that time because she was to lazy to mover her stuff. I know it was only 0.10 cents but its the principal of the thing and money is tight and it was not the first time k-mart had miss marked products and would not change it. that was two years ago and money is still tight in fact it is non-existing and we don't shop at k-mart any more!!!

I also find this interesting: Next time you buy food from the drive-through at a fast food restaurant, check the reciept. Often times they charge you more than the regular sales tax. For instance, at the McDonald's Restaurant on Hampton Ave in south St, Louis, you get charged a "take-out tax", which is around 10 percent. Regular sales tax, depending on the jurisdiction, is just under 8 percent.

Maybe thats why walmart moved their return department to the back of the store.

I have noticed this at several stores. I started using the self checkout so I can monitor it myself at my pace. Then when I catch them I have the attendant correct it. Every place from shop n' save to 7-eleven (of course 7-eleven you can't self check out). Happens more than people know.

I always watch where ever I go and make sure that sale items ring up right.

Imapayne, i hate that they moved that to the back don't you? Anywho, I try to watch the price when the checker is scanning at that moment. If not, then I look at the reciept before leaving the store. And if at Walmart they stop me to look at my reciept, I tell them, nope not gonna show it to you, not after waiting in line to purchase my stuff. There is no reason to. If they have a problem then they can send someone after me. They never do.

I know this much by law they have to let you have a item if it is price wrong and cheeper than it was..

I got a new fishing reel at Wal Mart the price on it said 1.99..I said gosh what wrong with it because it was a 29.99 reel..Dad said it was priced wrong and by law they got to let me have it for that..

It was the reel I been wanting and so dad got it for me..The price on register said 29.99 but I spoke up said the price tag says 1.99..The guy tryed saying it was wrong price and we had to pay the 29.99..Well he got the manager and the manager said they had to let me have it for the 1.99...

So remember sometimes prices are wrong but for your best side take it LOL...
p.s. remember by law they got to sell it for price on item...

I used to work at walmart and in training they always told us to respect the customer and that the customer is ALWAYS right. Also if they told us that the price was different (as long as it wasn't a drastic difference) to give it too them for that. And if you ever questioned it to get a CSM or call the department. It seems like anymore walmart doesn't give a BOOGEDY about their customers and some are so RUDE! We shop for some stuff at Walmart but I do shop other places too like Target, Shop n Save, Aldi's, etc.
Harp- I didn't know that by law they are required to sell it for the price on the item. Thanks for that info...I'll use that! :)

Walmart is pretty bad. I picked up a ton of christmas stuff, when it was 75% off. Nice jars to put homemade can in. original price 6.00, rang up 4.99. she kept ringing. i said please stop. it is 75% off, and she said thats right. i said is 4.99 75% off of 6.00?(of course i was being sarcastic. but she said yes it is. any other time i might have left. but i WANTED these very bad , and after a long time., she got help, and got a lesson in math at the same time.

shop n save is the 2nd worst. but they will give the price on the sign, and then take it down quickly, if its wrong.

With all due respect, I don't think Wal-Mart, or any of them for that matter is being malicious in charging you the wrong price. I worked at Wal-Mart for 8 years, and the part about the customer always being right is correct. The cashier has way too much to do to watch what each item rings up. If the transaction is done, the cashier can do nothing, but the service desk can fix it for you, and they almost always do. I realize that there are people out there that work for Wal-Mart that are jerks, but I honestly think it is the minority, and most are nice and try to help. Just my opinion.

BMD_2, I also had a similar experience (also at K-Mart), but in my case, they called the police and tried to charge me with 'causing a disturbance'. Luckily, another customer had witnessed what had gone on and told the police the real story. The police then convinced the manager that he really didn't want to press charges.

Haven't been in a K-mart since, and haven't been in a Sears store since K-mart bought them.

My husband I went to Kmart because my husband saw in there ad that they had trimmers/loppers on sale for 20% off and we needed some so we went over there to get it. We got them as well as a few other things and when we got up to the checkout everything else rang up right except for the loppers which were $7.99 to begin with so my husband said something to the checker and she changed it. As we were walking back out to our car I told my husband about this blog and about BMD_2's experience with Kmart. Thanks so much for this blog and everyone that posted!
