AMOM's Blog

I thought that all the trucks were going to park for the next 3 days to protest the gas prices. My house overlooks highway 44, and the trucks are rolling.

They need to all stop and all the cars.

I believe it was just the independents that were doing this. Since they are more immediately and directly affected by the high diesel prices. I know these things tend to fail but to attempt and set an example is truly commendable.

The huge profits Exxon and other oil companies make are ridiculous and it's at the little people's (us) expense. Good luck to all truckers - mainly the independents.

I'm with ya Tommy and who cares if one is a diehard Republican. If their wallet isn't hurting then more power to them but most of the increases we've seen were promised not to happen in his first term.

Gosh, last thing I wanna do is bash Dubya. We'll have the CAT (Conservative Attack Team) dispatched to open up a can of whoopass!

It'll never happen, they have to work, even if the gas prices continue to go up

Everyone needs to call in sick and stay home, but some idiots would be out there no matter what.

Alot of those people are company or union truckers and they have to work. They can be fired for refusal to work.

Alot of the Independent drivers cannot afford to park their rigs for 2-3 days. Example we have a $3,600.00 overhead to pay each month and that doesn't include taxes or fuel.

I agree with the truckers and stand behind them one hundred percent, more people should stand behind them. Truckers are who get your major items where they need to be and deserve our respect. Some people complain about them on the highways,(they are to slow, they are in my way, etc.) but you would'nt have the things you have on your house and such if it was'nt for truckers. Besides they are out there trying to make a living for their families and do their job. It's just that their job is'nt setting behind a desk like some people I know. I think that people that drive their cars should try to figure out some way to stop using gas for a day or two. Show this government that we all can't be bullied around and we are tired of it.

wasy05 - you definitely have the right idea, we are out here trying to make a living and it is getting near to impossible to even do that. God forbid if our tractor breaks down we don't have the funds right now for repairs. And we haul your precious produce. And not being paid anymore than last year for hauling it. The brokers and the stores are making all the profits.

High gas prices or not -- life pretty much goes on. Not many people I know can sit for 3 days without pay. You cut corners and life goes on.

Most of the people I know that are having problems buying gas had totally overspent over the last few years anyway, so its all just catching up to them now. It as much their own fault as anyone elses.

Not everyone is suffering over gas prices thou....Trust me..Come the summer the gas stations will still be packed with RVs and 4 wheelers and the lakes will be filled to the max with boats just like every summer.

Today I saw on yahoo's home page a report that Congress asked the oil companies why the gas prices are so high, and why they are showing record profits again. I thought they asked exon/mobil the same question last year when they had a 300 billion dollar profit. A lot of good that talk did.

I don't think even if all the truckers stopped for one or two days the oil companies would even care. They are gouging us so bad on a daily basis. That two days with bad sales is not going to hurt them. The only way to solve this problem is to have them indited on price gouging, and face jail time. Then they might lower the prices. Until congress has the guts to do that we just have to live with it.

sarcasticdragon - the issue with the truckers is not the price of gasoline its the price of diesel which is running about 60 to 80 cents higher a gallon than reg gasoline. And it cost more to process gasoline than diesel since diesel is the junk fuel that is left after gasoline has been processed. Also your fuel tax that you pay at the pump is no were near the fuel tax the truckers pay for diesel at the pumps not to mention the fuel taxes we pay at the end of each quarter on top of what we already have paid. Then when we as normal consumers go to the stores we pay taxes just like you do to purchase merchandise so you tell me what the problem is. If the price of fuel doesn't come down maybe there won't be things readily available to you or me to purchase because 90% of the freight shipped is hauled by the independent operator. There are so many independents that are losing their equipment right now because the rates they get paid are the same rates they got paid last year when diesel was quite a bit cheaper. Most of the trucks out there are getting 5 - 7 miles per gallon when these brokers out there only want to pay 85 to 95 cents per mile. The brokers and the big businesses are the ones that are making the profits out there. And they will be the ones pulling their rv's and boats around the country this year not you or I. So the general public needs to stand behind the truckers and quit running the wheels off their cars.

I support the truckers bcause I know guys who do this for a living. I would stay at home to help get a point across. I think it terrible the profits the Oil companies are making and If ALL AMERICANS would stand up and stop driving even for 1 day I bet a big enough impact would make a difference. Hey any truckers out there let me know when you decide to strike and I'll gladly stay home! I'm so ready for the politicans to have to live off of what I make (2 part time jobs) because all our tech jobs are going over to India.

Its called the selling of america its been going on for years I've lost several jobs in my life to manufacturing being shipped offshore. And now they are trying to break the independents back by making it unafordable to haul products. Thats why you see so many mexican trucks in the midwest as well as all over the country 98% of them cannot speak english and do not know our traffic laws. This is the only industry they can't ship off shore so to pacify big business their letting them come across the border to haul for cheaper the fuel prices in mexico are alot lower than here in the states and the fuel there is not regulated to our epa's standards. They shouldn't be allowed here to take our jobs away from us as well as our other jobs that are left for other citizens of this Great United States.
